Madeira Beach, Florida, September 3, 2013 – Tranquil Shores Treatment Center and Addiction Professional Ken Donaldson will be partnering to facilitate an addiction workshop to help celebrate National Recovery Month. Recovery month, which is facilitated by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, is a campaign that promotes the societal benefits of prevention and treatment for addiction, and spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover.

The workshop is: Mindfulness, Emotional Intelligence and Recovery: A Refreshing New Perspective on Addiction, Effective Prevention and Productive Treatment. The workshop will be held at Tranquil Shores Treatment Facility at 4300 Duhme Rd., Madeira Beach, FL 33708. It will take place Friday, September 27 from 9 am to 1 pm. Refreshments will be provided. The cost to participate is $47.00 and is limited to the first 40 registrants. 4 CEUs are offered to mental health professionals.

The primary learning objectives for the workshop are:

  • Identifying the origin of addiction
  • Understanding the role of mindfulness and emotional intelligence in treatment and prevention
  • Receive an overview of optimal and individualized holistic treatment options
  • Developing effective intervention tools
  • Review a number of proactive prevention models

There is a need in the community to increase awareness about the prevalence of substance abuse, and other addictive behaviors, and their effect on the entire population. For example, there were just over 3.0 million new users (initiates) of illicit drugs in 2011, or about 8,400 new users per day. Half (51 percent) were under 18 (National Survey on Drug Use and Health conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration 2011).

Ken Donaldson will bring his 25 years of experience to facilitate the workshop. His expertise includes mental health and addiction counseling. He is also established with the local media and numerous organizations and companies in the Tampa Bay area as a trusted emotional intelligence advisor.

The goals of this workshop are to build awareness in the community about addiction and the impact it has on everyone, as well as offer positive options to create effective prevention and treatment modalities for a problem that impacts everyone: Addiction.
